Comic Books

November 17, 2007

I would like to take a moment of your time so that I could bring something to your attention that you may not know about already. There is a certain book series called the Best American Series, and in 2006 they added comics to their roster. The name of this new branch of the series is called, simply enough, the Best American Comics (2006 volume pictured above).

Now, when they comics, they don’t mean the kind of stuff that Marvel or DC puts out. This particular book series dabbles in what they like to call graphic storytelling and literary comics. I don’t want you to get the wrong idea though. These aren’t comics made by snobs who think that they’re too good to make a more mainstream comic. What’s within the pages of these books are, in fact, quite good. I can even go as far to say that it’s hard to pick a weak entry out of the bunch. I’ve been able to enjoy each one that I’ve read so far.

Here’s an example of the first comic that you’ll come upon once you decide to dig into the 2006 volume:

This is just one example of what you’ll find if you decide to pick these books up (the 2007 volume has already been released and is pictured below). Each book is $22.00 before taxes, so it shouldn’t set you back to far if you decide to start following the series. Well, that’s pretty much all I have to say on the matter, and I hope that I can get some people to pick this up after they read this. Thank you for your time.
