Treats for a Black Mage?

While this isn’t DIRECTLY comics related, I felt like sharing it with everyone anyway: my Halloween decorations for this year.

Oh, and cake

(it’s two bunt cakes put together, and it’s good)

So here’s the entire set up:

First off, I have two compact UV Fluorescent bulbs in place of my Porch Lights.

These are $20 bulbs that give off about the same intensity UV as a 19″ tube bulb, pretty good in my opinion

Above the front door is this puppy

It’s a Pentagram design printed on Transparent Paper, taped on top of a box filled with a coiled rope light. The result is a bright red glow, highlighting the lines of the pentagram

I have drawn shit tons of runes (in various real and imaginary dialects) all over my font walk. The chalk itself is a home-made UV reactant chalk, here are some pics. (oh and you can make home-made chalk from Plaster of Paris, found at most craft stores)

Under the glow from the UV porch lights, the runes glow a strong green color. Unfortunately, the glow of the runes is not strong enough for my shit camera to detect on it’s own, so you guys have to live with what the runes look like in day light.

Next up is the sound system, two small speakers and a decent Subwoofer playing a small Playlist of creepy atmospheric sounds (mostly from Video Games)

I had to do a little dance with the window to make the sound project clearly out onto the street. You could hear it pretty well from the house across the street.

Oh and who can forget a Mage’s staff?

I found this little number in the back yard, and after some cuts, it looks pretty gewd.

I cut the top at an angle, to make it easier to hold and more intricate-looking

The indoor accent lighting was tricky, as my front door opens to the right, basically making any light shining from that direction useless. My solution was to put it behind a wall to your left when opening the door, so it made the adjacent room glow evil orange, while not being visible to the kiddiewinks.

Here’s the entire set-up in all it’s strange glory. The red pentagram, the violet lights, and the green glowing runes all mix together for something very eerie

This is posted after the fact, as I was too attentive towards possible trick or treaters during.

Turns out only about 20 trick or treaters came by, so my decorations were largely wasted (:<), but hey, at least they look kickass, and I get all the leftover Candy.

Oh and little known fact: 70% of Trick-or-Treaters are Jailbait.
