If you haven’t yet heard of Scott Pilgrim by Brian Lee O’malley and Oni press then you are woefully uncool. It’s true! This graphic treat is what our little video game drenched indie music generation has been looking for. Essentially it’s a love story. Scott, the main ‘playa’, has to fight his way through the 7 evil ex boyfriends of Ramona, his latest squeeze, to be allowed to date her. Along the way Scott has to deal with his gay roommate, his own various ex girlfriends, his regular friends, his ex girlfriend’s bands, his own band, videogames, memories, and a whole lot of ass whoopin’.

I got word that there’s a new Avatar video game out that seemed to slip under the radar undetected. It’s called “Avatar: The Burning Earth”, and really, it… doesn’t look too good. I’ll let you decide for yourself: here’s a video courtesy of GameTrailers.com.
Really, I’m not too impressed. The graphics could be a lot better, and the gameplay looks very “standard beat-em-up.” I am impressed they managed to get all the voice actors together; it seems we get to hear a little bit of the Mako’s replacement near the end. He’s not too bad, but I’m still skeptical.
Anyways, I might give it a rent, just to write up something solid, but it seems to be a game directed at its younger audience, much like the lastest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games (based on the cartoon, not the film). Only time will tell, I suppose.
I remember there was an idea kicking around before of a free-form fighting game with bending involved; it would be awesome if they developed the ultimate “use your arena to your advantage” engine to go with it, no?
